James Halifko performs and records his original contemporary
folk songs written about the history and environment of South
Jersey. He was born along the Raritan Bay in South Amboy,
New Jersey; and spent his childhood in the towns around the
Raritan Valley. Except for three years living where the U.S.
Army wanted, he has always lived in New Jersey -- most of
the years in the Southern Part of the State. For the last ten
years he has lived in Little Egg Harbor Township with his
family.
James began his musical career in the early sixties;
the most influential period occurred during that early period
when he developed as a folk-singer. Through the years he
performed in various acts - Country, Rock, Jazz, alone and in
groups. For a time, when his family was young, he focused his
energy at being Father and Husband. Upon his return to
musical endeavors, he returned to his roots in Folk Music. The
current release on Amber Seahorse Record is Sea, Sand and
Pines. The project is the culmination of over three years of
work: research, site location, song writing and recording. The
release consists of fourteen songs, most of which are about
the history of New Jersey's coast. These are the songs he
currently performs. He has performed them in numerous
venues: New Jersey Folk Festival, Delaware Bay Schooner
Project Festival, Friends if the Clearwater Society, Pine
Barrens Festival, ALO Summer Concert Series . . .
occasionally at local Coffee Houses, and is a regular at
Albert Hall In Waretown,
New Jersey.
