Cobscook Bay State Park

We spent only a single night (and most of the afternoon preceeding) at Cobscook Bay State Park. Not really a place we had planned to stay, we ended up there because we couldn't find a campground close to Quoddy Head. That was okay with us, because we were determined to see as much of Maine as we could during the time we had. This all turned out to be a pleasant surprise, as Cobscook Bay was a very nice little State Park. The tide was out when we got there, so we had a chance to walk around the rocky shore of the bay. Over hours, we took a series of photographs as the tide came in. We have spared the viewer the results of this experiment.

Island in the bay. An island in the bay at Cobscook State Park. It is low tide.

Another island. Another island in the bay. Later, we saw a lobster boat making the rounds to check traps.

Mr. Porcupine. It is not easy to see, but there really is a porcupine up this tree. He is the large roundish mass at the center of the picture. We found him walking along the trail to the stony beach that borders the bay. He became frightened and climbed the tree, but we did not chase him or try to annoy him in any way. No animals were harmed in the creation of this website.
